Phone Scam in Area

(9-2-10  Brian B)  Black River Falls Police are warning area citizens of a potential telephone scam.  According to the police report, a woman received a phone call from a man identifying himself as John Smith, claiming the the woman had won a prize from Kwik Trip in Tomah.  The caller said her phone number had been drawn, and she had won free gas.  He then sought more information from the woman.  When the woman told the caller she never shopped at Kwik Trip, the caller claimed that someone else must have submitted her name.  Kwik Trip was informed of the scam.  The police would like to remind citizens never to give personal information to unknown callers or emailers.
 

Murderer/Sex Offender Released to Home in Clark County

(9-2-10)  

A convicted murderer and sex offender is now in his new home.

The Clark County sheriff says Gary Thiede was released from jail Wednesday morning.

The sheriff says Thiede had to be released into Clark County because that's where the sexual assault occurred.

After serving his time and after some heated meetings about his release, Gary Thiede is now out of jail and living just south of Neillsville.

 

Guilty Plea Entered for Man In Murder Case

(9-2-10) 

A 40 year old West Salem man accused of killing his parents in La Crosse County had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf Wednesday.

Eric Koula stood mute in court Wednesday and the judge entered the pleas for him.

He is facing two counts of first degree intentional homicide and one count of forgery in the killing of his parents Dennis and Merna Koula on May 21st. The couple was found shot-to-death in their home on May 24th.

Last week a judge bound Koula over for trial.

The Koulas had ties to Jackson County

 

Partners Credit Union Merges with Coop Credit Union

(9/1/10) Partners Credit Union of Strum, WI and Fall Creek, WI is consolidating (merging) with Co-op Credit Union of Black River Falls, Melrose and Galesville.  The consolidation will be effective October 1st, 2010 and has been approved by both boards of directors, the Office of Credit Unions (Wisconsin), and the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA – federal credit union regulator and insurer).  Partners Credit Union members automatically become Co-op Credit Union members on October 1st.  Once the transition to common data processing and other systems is complete, members of both credit unions will have access to five full-service locations, seven drive-ups in all, in western Wisconsin.  The credit union will serve six counties and parts of three others.  Both credit unions are federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund.

 

HARDEES Pigskin Challenge Returns 9/9

(9-1-10)  The annual HARDEES Pigskin Challenge returns to WWIS FM on Thursday September 9th at around 7:30.  WWIS General Manager Bob "Gabby" Gabrielson and WWIS Sports Director Brian B will make their weekly predictions on all of the upcoming weekend's pro football games.  You can fill out a slip at the Black River Falls HARDEES, and if your sheet is selected, you could win great food prizes from HARDEES by outpicking the hosts.  Each contestant will then be put in a drawing box for a grand prize at the end of the season.  Check in here each week for predictions, and standings.  HARDEES Pigskin Challenge airs at 7:30 Friday mornings during the regular season except for weeks which feature Thursday games.
