Despite reports to the contrary, the Blair Taylor School District has NOT received final approval to go to a 4 day school week next year.

(2/3/12) Air Force officials recently announced the Volk Field Combat Readiness Training Center as one of eight units nation-wide to earn the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award (AFOEA).  This is the second consecutive AFOEA for the CRTC and the fourth in unit history.

Western Wisconsin will have its say next month on plans to build a new electric transmission line north of La Crosse.

(2/2/12) Health care officials at Tomah Memorial Hospital are encouraging area residents to join with their staff and wear something red on Friday.

(1/31/12) The state D-N-R says it will consider granting a permit for a sand-mining project in western Wisconsin that might kill a small number of endangered moths. The agency is taking public comments on the project through February 19th. The Uni-min Corporation wants to open the sand-mine near Tunnel City in Monroe County. A small part of the site is a habitat for the endangered phlox moth, but the D-N-R says the company plans to preserve-and-enhance a habitat on part of its proposed mining site. And officials say the mine will probably not affect the overall recovery prospects for the phlox moth within the state.
