DNR Considering Sand Mine near Tunnel City

(1/31/12) The state D-N-R says it will consider granting a permit for a sand-mining project in western Wisconsin that might kill a small number of endangered moths. The agency is taking public comments on the project through February 19th. The Uni-min Corporation wants to open the sand-mine near Tunnel City in Monroe County. A small part of the site is a habitat for the endangered phlox moth, but the D-N-R says the company plans to preserve-and-enhance a habitat on part of its proposed mining site. And officials say the mine will probably not affect the overall recovery prospects for the phlox moth within the state.

 

UW Extension Crop Management Update February 10th

(1/31/12) Managing grain in storage, weeds, pests, and soil fertility considerations in the current markets are the headline topics for this year’s UW Extension Crop Management Update that will be held at Jake’s Northwoods at Sparta on February 10th.  Registration starts at 9:30 and presentations begin at 10:00 am.  The workshop will wrap up at approximately 2:30 pm
