Life goes on for nine members of a central Wisconsin family who lost their father in a freak traffic crash last Friday.
Canon Aaron Huberfeld of Saint Mary's Catholic Oratory in Wausau said the family is doing "amazingly well," given the circumstances. Forty-two year old Michael Rogan of Stratford was driving his wife Niki to a hospital for the birth of their eighth child, when another vehicle struck a deer and the animal crashed into the Rogans' van. All seven kids were in the van. The survivors escaped with minor injuries. The Wausau Daily Herald said the family was in church on Sunday, and had a baptism ceremony afterward. Meanwhile, church friends Dominic and Cecilia Gruetzmacher (grits-mock-er) said they can't believe the support they've received. The couple set up a Go-Fund-Me account with the goal of raising five-thousand dollars for funeral expenses. It raised 260-thousand as of this morning, with a new goal of a half-million dollars. One person donated 30-thousand dollars to cover the cost of a new van for the Rogans. The Gruetzmachers said they hoped the donations will allow Niki Rogan to continue home-schooling her kids. Michael Rogan was a Marine sergeant who sang in his church choir and cooked each summer at a week-long boys' camp. His funeral is set for Saturday in Wausau.
