A winter storm is going to start pounding the southern Plains today (Friday).

The National Weather Service says ice accumulations and heavy rain could cause widespread damage including power outages and flooding. Forecasters say the hardest hit areas will be Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. One inch of ice and gusty winds could make roads impossible to travel on. A winter storm watch is now in effect for those states, along with parts of Illinois and Texas.
