Heroin overdoses are claiming more lives. The National Center for Health Statistics says there were almost 13-thousand heroin deaths in 2015, four times the number from five years earlier.
Heroin is now involved in 25-percent of U-S overdose deaths, as the drug becomes cheaper and more potent. Researchers did not look at the root cause. But some experts believe people who initially get hooked on prescription painkillers may move on to heroin because of its price and easy availability.
