Together for Jackson County Kids (TFJCK) has partnered with area agencies to help prevent unwanted distribution of medications.
Drug lock boxes, bags, and drug deactivation units are now available to help secure medication in the home. The boxes have a combination lock and the bags have a dual combination and key lock. The deactivation bags are pouches that contain a product that provides an environmentally safe way to destroy unused medication. Pills and liquids can be placed into the pouch which destroys them.
The boxes, bags, and pouches are useful in rural areas where people find it inconvenient to bring unwanted medications to a drop box. Also, home-bound patients can secure medication that could fall into the wrong hands.
To help combat the national and local opioid crisis, TFJCK is now providing these items to the general public on a first come-first served basis. If you are interested in having one of these for use in your home, please go to Jackson County Public Health at 420 State Highway 54, Black River Falls, WI or call, 715-284-4301 ext. 317.
