(5/25/12) Organizers of the first annual "Give Red, Earn Green" two-day blood drive in Tomah are describing the event as a success.
More than one-hundred-eighty people turned out for the event held May 23 at the Tomah High School and May 24 at Tomah Memorial Hospital.
Unofficial results included one-hundred twenty –nine units of blood collected at the high school and forty-four units at Tomah Memorial. Blood donors could give blood on either day and then cast a vote for their favorite area non-profit organization.
The non-profit with the most votes will receive a six-hundred dollar donation from State Farm- Holthaus Insurance and Financial Services of Tomah. The non-profit with the second highest votes will receive a three-hundred dollar donation, while the third place group will be given a one-hundred donation.
According to Holthaus Insurance agent Jeff Holthaus of Tomah, the special blood drive was a true team event.
More than twenty-five different area non-profit organizations received votes.
Holthaus said the cash donations will be awarded during a special presentation the first full week in June.
