(10/11/12) Jackson County producers have until November 20, 2012 to sign up for 2013 Non-insured Assistance Program (NAP) coverage for perennial crops.
This deadline applies to perennial crops such as apples, wild rice, huckleberries, peaches, plums, asparagus, currants, grapes, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, strawberries, pears, cherries, honey, and maple sap, which are not covered under Federal crop insurance.
NAP is designed to cover losses caused by damaging weather conditions. If losses are in excess of 50 percent, payment would be received. Losses are generally determined by the percentage of loss compared to the producer's actual yield history. Eligible production losses are paid at 55 percent of the established value for the crop.
"Producers who currently have NAP coverage or who are interested in coverage need to keep accurate production records," said Julie Dokkestul, Executive Director of the Jackson County Farm Service Agency.
The November 20 deadline also applies to persons who have a 2012 policy and need to renew their coverage for 2013.
Other upcoming NAP deadlines are:
January 2, 2013 crop reporting deadline for honeyMarch 15, 2013 application deadline for spring seeded crops, such as spring seeded vegetables.
NAP coverage is only available for crops where coverage is not available under the Federal Crop Insurance Program (FCIC). For multi-peril crop insurance (FCIC) deadlines and information contact a local crop insurance agent, who can be found online at www.rma.usda.gov/tools/agent.
Producers are encouraged to contact the Jackson County FSA Office at 715-284-4515 to obtain NAP coverage or for additional information on NAP prior to the November 20 deadline.
