Arthritis Foundation Exercise Programs Offers Pain Relief

(11/12/12) Black River Falls, WI – The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Programs will be offered starting Monday, January 21st at Jackson County Department of Health and Human Services.

Developed by physical therapies specifically for people with arthritis, this low-impact, joint-safe exercise program has been documented to help decrease arthritis pain and relieve stiffness while increasing flexibility, range of motion. The program can build stronger muscles and overall stamina through balance and endurance exercises.

The program is taught by Arthritis Foundation-certified instructor, Jacqueline Williams, who has completed in-depth training on arthritis and the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program. During the 8 weeks (January 21-March 13, 2013), participants will go through a series of gentle movements and activities designed to increase mobility and range of motion. This low-impact class is suitable for every fitness level and can be done while sitting, standing or on the floor. Recent program additions also allow for the incorporation of resistance bands and weights for an added workout as well as interactive health education lessons and stress-reducing relaxation techniques to help participants better manage their arthritis.

"In addition to reducing pain and stiffness, the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program helps people with arthritis keep joints flexible, maintain muscle strength and build overall stamina," said Alison Eschweiler of the Arthritis Foundation Upper Midwest Region – Wisconsin Chapter. Results are backed by research studies. In one study, individuals who attended the class for four months reduced their pain by 24 percent and increased confidence in their ability to continue activities by 22 percent.

If you think you have arthritis, the Arthritis Foundation urges you to see an early and specific diagnosis. With more than 100 forms of arthritis and related diseases, a specific diagnosis is critical because each form requires a different treatment plan.

Pre-registration for the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is necessary and enrollment is limited. January 21st through March 13th, 2013. Class meets every Monday and Wednesday 9:30-10:30am. The suggested donation is $30 for the 16 classes OR $2 per class. If you attend 14 out of 16 classes you will receive $15 in refund!  The registration deadline is January 17, 2013.
