2013 Junior Ambassadors Announced

(1/7/13) Several years ago the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce initiated a program to introduce high school students to the Chamber of Commerce world.

Not only did the Chamber propose to educate students on what a Chamber of Commerce does, but also to give students their first taste of how a Board of Directors functions.  The program is now in its fifth year and two juniors, Jessica Valentino and Emily Stewart have been selected to serve as Junior Ambassadors for 2013.

Jessica is involved in many extracurricular activities which include FCCLA, softball, pep club, dance team and is slated to be the cheer captain in her senior year.  Currently, Jessica is a member of the Miss Jackson County Court as first attendant. Her plans after high school include college; leaning toward the hospitality industry and business management. Jessica has three sisters, Lindsey, Miranda and Olivia.  Her parents are Dino and Kelly Valentino of Black River Falls.

Emily is involved in FCCLA, pep club, cheer, dance team, softball, student senate and choir. She is also a member of the Go Green Team that is an environmentally conscious student group that organizes the recycling at the high school. Not only is Emily busy with school activities, she is a member of Jackson County 4-H and is currently a youth ambassador and a youth board member as well as belonging to the Black River Falls United Methodist youth group.  Emily's future plans include attending UW Oshkosh, seeking a degree in Emergency Management Services. Emily is the daughter of Chris Stewart of Black River Falls.

Beginning in January, the students will follow a curriculum designed to teach them how the Black River Area Chamber is active on the local, regional and state level.  They will attend the Chamber board of directors meetings and learn about the diverse nature of our county's business economy.  Prior to each meeting, Chamber board members and Executive Director Barb Brower will meet one-on-one with the students providing instruction on various aspects of the Chamber of Commerce.
