(2/6/13) Black River Falls - Paula Przywojski, Registered Dietitian at Black River Memorial Hospital has developed a month-long, myth-busting nutrition program that is FREE of charge and open to the public!
Participants can attend any one or all of the FREE nutrition education sessions to help dispel the nutrition myths created by fad diets and to get back to the basics of good nutrition. The program consists of five sessions, starting on February 25, 2013. Unless noted, each session will be held at Black River Memorial Hospital in the Dorothy Halvorson Conference room. The session dates and topics are:
February 25th (6:30 p.m.) – WHY DIETS DON'T WORK
A diet may help individuals lose weight but may not help them keep it off. Participants will learn how some diets may not be good for the body.
March 4th (6:30 p.m.) – THE TRUTH ABOUT CARBS
Carbohydrates have gotten such a bad rap but they are actually an essential part of healthy eating. Learn how to appropriately incorporate them into meals.
March 11th (6:30 p.m.) – THE TRUTH ABOUT PROTEIN & FLUID
This session will discuss the importance of protein when planning meals, the best sources of protein and how much individuals really need.
March 18th (6:00 p.m. – Lunda Center) – WEIGHT OF THE NATION EVENT
Jackson County's obesity coalition, Jackson in Action, will present part of the HBO series "Weight of the Nation" to increase awareness in Jackson County.
March 25th (6:30 p.m.) – FAT FACTS AND PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
This session will teach truths about fat and how to put knowledge of carbs, proteins and fat all together to create a well-balanced and healthy meal. Everyone who attends this session will enjoy a FREE 500 Club meal (a meal containing 500 calories) from the BRMH cafeteria.
Przywojski, also known as "Paula the Dietitian" said, "Through this series of educational classes, we will show people how to fit well-balanced meals into their individual lifestyles".
There will be door prizes given away at each session. Also, anyone who attends any one/all of the sessions will be entered into the grand prize drawing for a $100 Burnstad's gift card (drawing at the end of 3/25 session).
