Due to a rule violation, the La Crosse Aquinas co-op boy's hockey team has been disqualified from the WIAA boy's hockey tournament.
This affects Black River Falls, who will now open the post season in Tomah rather than Sauk Prairie. The Tigers will now be a 10 seed, facing the 7th seeded Timberwolves Tuesday night at 7 at Mose Lamb Arena in Tomah.
The Avalanche hockey team was disqualfied for breaking the "Jablonski Rule," which says that a team that is penalized with three game misconduct penalties in one season will forfeit the right to participate in the championship playoffs.
Aquinas had appealed the ruling, saying that one of the violations occured in a game in Minnesota and therefore should not be considered. The WIAA disagreed yesterday and removed them from the 3rd seed in the Wisconsin Dells Sectional. This means that all teams seeded below them move up and the changes are made accordingly. Black River Falls co-op had been a 11 seed and faced a long trip to Prairie Du Sac for their opening round game.
The Aquinas co-op also features players from Holmen, Cochrane Fountain City and Gale- Ettrick-Trempealeau.
