More than 100 miles of ATV trails in Jackson County opened on Wednesday, May 15 and will remain open, weather permitting, through Tuesday, October 15. An additional 135 miles through neighboring Clark County are open as well.
Black River Country is known for having some of the best ATV and single-track motorcycle trails in the Midwest. With a rolling, rugged landscape and great natural beauty, the trails are truly unique and offer challenges to riders of all abilities.
Just two hours from Madison, this ATV paradise also boasts nearly 200,000 acres of public forest and plenty of wildlife to see along the way, including deer and even bears. Riders will have an easy time navigating the area thanks to well-marked trails and plenty of available detailed maps. Jackson County ATV trails are also open to UTVs registered for public use.
"Spring is the perfect time to come ATVing in Black River Country," said Barb Brower, Executive Director for the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce. "Everything is green, flowers are blooming, the days are warm and wildlife is easy to spot. Hitting the trails is a great way to ditch your cabin fever and get back to nature."
Approximately 15 miles north of Black River Falls, ATV enthusiasts will find the ideal place to get down and dirty. Doc's Bunkhouse is a family-friendly campground with a mud pit and play area where ATVers are actually encouraged to slip, slide and tear up as much dirt as possible within the confines of their park.
Jackson County also hosts some of the best single track motorcycling in Wisconsin. Jackson Forest has 28 miles of trails ready and waiting for off-road motorcycles. The one-way trails are well-marked and maintained and perfect for riders of any level.
