(5/18/13) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has decided to leave lock on the Mississippi River near Fountain City open after an accident last Thursday.
A towboat hit the lock gate, causing extensive damage to the upstream, right descending gate. Engineers with the corps decided the lock can stay open with some restrictions until that gate is replaced. They say the replacement should arrive next week. No one was injured by the accident and those barges weren't carrying any hazardous materials.
