(7/23/13) Area dairy, livestock, and cash grain farmers are invited to attend the Silage Management meeting hosted by the UW-Cooperative Extension.
The meeting is an opportunity to discuss the 2013 weather effects on silage production, quality, feed value, and pricing.
UW-Extension's Randy Shaver, Dairy Nutritionist, Joe Lauer, Corn Agronomist, and Dr. Richard Muck, USDA Dairy Forage Research Center will facilitate discussions on the impacts of harvesting an immature corn crop and effects on silage quality and feed value; also the impact of field and farm variability on corn silage yield and quality, buying/selling silage while adjusting price for moisture/quality, and silage inoculants that work. Group discussion and individual questions are encouraged.
The event will be held August 8th, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Backroads P-Nut Gallery 228 Main Street, Taylor, WI 54659.
There is no cost for the workshop. Registrations are requested for lunch count to the Jackson County UW-Extension at (715) 284-4257.
