A driver killed in a rollover crash while being chased by a central Wisconsin sheriff's deputy was identified today as 39-year-old Shannon Melvin of Neillsville.

A 36-year-old passenger was seriously hurt in the incident, which happened early yesterday near Neillsville in the town of Pine Valley.  Clark County sheriff's deputies said a vehicle was driving through yards -- and a short time later, it crossed a center-line and almost struck an officer's squad car head-on.  The officer concluded that it was the same vehicle that drove through the yards, so he began chasing Melvin's unit -- which sped through a stop sign before it veered into a ditch and rolled over several times.  Melvin died at the scene.  An investigation continues.
