Man Killed in Highway 27 Crash

(10/19/13) A 53 year-old man was killed Friday afternoon in a head-on crash on Highway 27 in Monroe County.

According to the Sheriff's Department, it happened around 12:45 about a mile north of Sparta when a pick-up truck and four door sedan collided.  Authorities have yet to determine which direction the vehicles were traveling or what caused the crash.  The truck was driven by the man who died at the scene.  The sedan was driven by a 52 year-old woman who was flown to Marshfield with serious injuries.  Names of victims have not been released.  The highway was closed for more than two hours causing traffic delays and detours including delays in end-of-the-day school bus routes for the Sparta School District.  The crash remains under investigation.
