Man Killed in Crash Identified

A Durand man is dead after a car crash in Buffalo County

The mishap occured Wednesday afternoon near Nelson.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, a Toyota minivan driven by 50 year old Barbara J. Whelan of Mondovi was driving

southbound on highway 25, when she approached a vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of the highway due to an unrelated crash that had occurred earlier.

Whelan steered to go around the scene, lost control and crashed with a Chevy Impala that was northbound.

36 year old Jamie Steele of of Durand was the driver of the Impala.  He was taken to a hospital in Wabasha Minnesota where he was pronounced dead.

Whelan and a passenger wre taken to the hospital in Durand with non- life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
