(1/14/11) It wasn’t on the list of proposed closings, so the shut down of the post office in Bangor surprised almost everyone – including those who work there.
For now, postal services will be operated out of the nearby West Salem post office. The Bangor office is being closed due to a leaky roof. It’s possible mold or mildew could pose a safety and health risk to customers and employees. Postal service has been offered out of the location for more than 50 years. The owner of the building says he is willing to make the requested repairs, but he wants the postal service to sign a long-term lease. He says he just learned of the new complaints last week. Bangor was not on the list of 41 Wisconsin post offices which were being studied for a possible closure, but the agency apparently hasn’t made a decision whether to sign a new lease.
