Members of the public are being warned about a new telephone scam being perpetrated.
According to reports, citizens are receiving phone calls claiming they have been recruited for jury duty. The caller tells the potential victim there is a warrant issued for their arrest. In order to cancel the warrant, the victim is asked to give the caller their social security number and birthdate. This puts the citizen at risk of identity theft. The FBI is investigating.
You are reminded NEVER to give your social security number or any personal information to a phone caller. Anyone contacted by such a scam is encouraged to inform local police immediately.
