(3/24/12-Tony Hart) A School District of Bruce school bus and the students on it narrowly escaped tragedy Friday afternoon.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the bus driver while stopped with emergency equipment activated and preparing to allow children to get off, noticed that her bus was being passed on the right side by a 2001 beige Pontiac Sunfire, which also struck the mailbox at that residence. The bus driver was able to close the bus door in time to stop the children from exiting. The children's mother then chases and copied the vehicle plate and description of the driver which she then reported. Following another hit and run incident, 58 year old Michael R. Malone of Altoona was found passed out. A citizen took the keys to the vehicle and deputies arrest Malone for operating while intoxicated 11th offense. The investigation in both Rusk and Chippewa counties continues and further charges from both agencies are pending.
