(4/3/12) Carmen Liebelt, PT, DPT, WCC, DWC, of Black River Memorial Hospital has earned her Diabetic Wound Certification (DWC).
This certification is an advanced, specialized certification in diabetic wound management. Candidates for the certification must demonstrate proficiency and mastery of essential skills of diabetic wound management. As our aging population is growing and the number of diabetics in America continues to climb, the need for up-to-date and skilled wound clinicians grows. Every 30 seconds a leg is amputated because of diabetes somewhere in the world. Eighty-five percent of all diabetes-related amputations are preceded by foot ulcers. Coursework focuses on overall diabetic wound care and the promotion of an optimal wound healing environment, including prevention, therapeutic interventions and rehabilitative interventions.
Liebelt has been a physical therapist for 11 years and has been in wound care for over 10 years. Black River Memorial Hospital is committed to providing excellent care for our patients in a rural community. Liebelt says, “BRMH has been very supportive of my education and certifications to provide up-to-date and quality care to my patients.”
