(4/9/12) Win exciting prizes while fighting the number one genetic killer of children and young adults in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Bike-Walk-a-Thon.
The event is set for Saturday, April 28th registration starts at 8:30 AM and biking and walking begins at 9:00 AM. The event starts and ends at the BRF Middle School. All money raised will help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fund the research that has been getting closer to a cure for CF. The life expectancy for a person with CF has gone from the teens to late 30’s due to your help over the last 24 years we’ve done this event.
“People of all ages who want to bike or walk for health, fun and prizes can register,” according to Mitch and Susan Wester, along with Kristin Gjerseth Chairpersons of the bike-walk-a-thon. Participants will collect pledges and bike, run or walk.
There are three bike routes a 1 mile on the Middle School playground (for younger riders), a 5 mile (on the Foundation Trail) and a challenging 10 miles. All bikers that collect $25.00 in pledges or more will receive a bike lock. They will also be entered in a special drawing for four brand-new bikes and two bike helmets and a Perkins gift certificate.
Walkers that raise $25.00 of more will be entered in a special drawing for a $100 cleaning certificate sponsored by GW Pro cleaning, Perkins certificates, and Mary Kay certificates.
This year a special prize will be given to the team that raises the most money. A team can have any number of members from two to 10.
Pledge forms are available at all the school offices or from the Chamber of Commerce building. Please collect the pledges and turn them in with your pledge form the day of the event. The pledge forms are also a permission slip that gives insurance backing through the CF Foundation in case of accidents. Pledges may be made on-line at madison.cff.org then go to Great Strides register Eau Claire, pick the brfbike (Sue Wester) team.
