(4/23/12) While some organizations worry about having enough people show up for their fundraising event, members of the Tomah Memorial Hospital Foundation are hoping nobody shows up for their annual ‘non-event’ fundraiser.
That’s because it’s not even taking place - -sort of.
For the fourth consecutive year the philanthropic organization of Tomah Memorial Hospital has decided to hold something just a bit different: a non – event gala.
According to Foundation president Ray Habelman Junior, instead a traditional banquet, a mailing has been sent to former “Friends of the Foundation”, along with Tomah area businesses asking for financial support of the hospital foundation.
Fliers also promote an informational non-event hotline at 3-7-2-1-0-0-7 to hear more, or maybe in this case, less about the mythical event.
Habelman said the Foundation’s non-event has been well received and has helped the group purchase an automated external defibrillator for the hospital, donate five-thousand dollars to the Saint Clare Health Mission for prescription medications, and financially support Winnebago Wednesday programs organized by The Parenting Place of Monroe County.
Each year the foundation also awards over four-thousand dollars in scholarships for students planning a medical career.
Habelman said anyone interested in taking part in the “non-event” who did not receive a donation mailing can pick one up at Tomah Memorial Hospital or on-line at Tomah Hospital –dot-org.
