April Cooler Month

(5/1/12) Last month was cooler than our record warm March – but it was still a bit warmer than normal, at least in La Crosse.

The National Weather Service said the average temperature was just under 50-degrees in April, one-degree above the norm. The average high for the month was about 61, and the average low was close to 39-degrees. We also felt those “April showers.” La Crosse had just over three-and-a-half inches of rain for the month, almost a quarter-inch above normal. About one-point-six inches rapidly came down in a 24-hour stretch on April 19th-and-20th. Parts of Wisconsin got quite a bit of frost which they didn’t see in March – and that damaged at least some fruit crops which came out of their vines early. La Crosse only got a trace of snow last month. Its snowfall for the winter was 21-and-a-half inches – less than half the norm of 44-plus. Meanwhile, virtually all of Wisconsin will get showers and thunderstorms at least once over the next three days, and maybe several times. As for temperatures, they could get as warm as the low-80’s tomorrow in southern Wisconsin.
