(5/3/12) A seventh-grade girls’ basketball coach has been fully exonerated, after Trempealeau County prosecutors dropped the final charges in the case.
42-year-old Brady Olson was originally charged with disorderly conduct and felony child abuse, for putting dry ice to the legs of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau players in January and giving them burn marks. Police said Olson was trying to get his team fired up by putting the dry ice to his arms and mouth, and then asking the players if they wanted to take part. Earlier, a judge threw out the felony charge, saying the prosecution did not prove that Olson acted recklessly, or caused bodily harm. The state asked the judge this week to drop the remaining misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Prosecutors said they were no longer confident that a jury would convict Olson – who disputed the charges ever since they were filed.
