UW-L, Loggers Partner to Stabilize College Baseball Program

Less than three years after budget cuts left the UW-LaCrosse baseball program for dead, a partnership with the local Northwoods League team may make it financially stable for years to come.

The LaCrosse Loggers and UWL announced a partnership Thursday which would have the Loggers make an annual donation to the University, and would move the Eagles spring games to Copeland Park.

UWL Athletic Director Josh Whitman says the partnership will helo the programs in several ways.

Improvements are planned for Copeland Park including a video board and a Field Turf infield.

The city must sign off on UWL moving its games to Copeland Park.

A group of individuals saved UWL baseball after budget cuts in 2009 eliminated the program.

This year, the Eagles won the regular season championship and host the WIAC Tournament this weekend.
