Flood warnings remain in effect on the Mississippi River between Prescott and Buffalo County in western Wisconsin.
The National Weather Service says the river is about one-and-a-third feet below its flood stage at Hastings Minnesota. It’s expected to get above the flood stage by tomorrow morning, and get a foot above its banks before falling on Sunday. Minor flooding is expected both at Hastings and a weather station downstream at Wabasha Minnesota. The river is expected to get near its flood stage by next Tuesday morning. Actual flooding is no longer being predicted. The Mississippi is feeling the effects of massive heavy rains late last week in far northwest Wisconsin and central Minnesota. Tow operators and recreational boaters are being told to stay off the river at Minneapolis – but similar orders have not been imposed downstream along the western Wisconsin border. Forecasters say there’s a slight chance of rain in eastern Wisconsin tonight and tomorrow, with a chance of thunderstorms statewide during the weekend.
