Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program

(5/31/12) Jackson County Aging Office & the Aging and Disability Center of Western Wisconsin are offering the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program to income eligible seniors again this year.

 

If you are a citizen 60 years or older (55 if Native American) with an annual household income at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, you may apply and receive a $25 voucher packet to purchase locally grown produce at certified farm markets and food stands. The following table describes eligible households:

For each additional household member, add $611 monthly, $7,326 annually.

The distribution of vouchers will be as follows:

June 11th, 2012   3:00 - 4:30pm      Friends Sharing Food Shelf                            BRF, WI

June 27th, 2012   11:00 -12:30pm   L&M Café                                         Melrose, WI

June 28th, 2012   9:30 -11:30am      Taylor Food Pantry                            Taylor, WI

July 2nd, 2012   1:00 - 2:00pm         Alma Center Senior Apts.                  Alma Center, WI

 

This is a first come, first serve program for which Jackson County qualified to receive 95 packets for distribution.

 

NO voucher packets will be distributed prior to June 4th in Jackson County.

 

After July 2nd, 2012 eligible seniors may contact the Jackson County Elderly Benefit Specialist, Pam Johnson, at 715-284-4301, extension 377 to check on the availability of voucher packets. 

 

Jackson County farmers’ markets and stands certified to accept the vouchers include Monday's Market Hwy 54 in BRF, Taylor Area Farmer’s Market, Garden Shack in front of Dollar General in BRF, Community Farmers' Market at Scholze Home Center in BRF, Cain's Orchard, and Comstock Farmstands on both Snow Creek Road and on US HWY 12. Markets or stands can be added upon application. The vouchers can also be used at other Wisconsin Farmers’ Markets and farm stands.
