State officials will hold a public hearing in Sparta this afternoon on a proposed frac-sand mine and processing plant in that community.
The hearing is part of U-S Silica’s request for a state air pollution permit. The D-N-R ordered the hearing, after it made a preliminary determination that the sand-mining project meets state-and-federal air pollution control laws. The agency will also take written comments on the proposal through June 28th. If there are no major objections, the state expects to approve the permit.
