Worker Killed in Crane Accident

(7/5/12) Authorities now say a worker was killed this morning when a crane collapsed at a construction site on the Highway 41 expressway north of Oshkosh.

The state D-O-T’s Kris Schuller said a crane was trying to lift a beam on the bridge over Lake Butte des Morts (beoo’-deh-more) when it collapsed. And an employee of the Spancrete company was killed. The Winnebago County coroner said another worker was also injured. The crane went down about nine this morning. Left lanes in both directions of the expressway were closed for about 45 minutes. This is the second crane accident in the last three months on Highway 41, which is being re-designed and expanded to meet standards as a future interstate highway between Milwaukee and Green Bay. The other crane mishap occurred in late April near De Pere. 58-year-old Raymond Ashenbrenner of Black River Falls died while unloading a crane.
