(7/14/12) Runners are gearing up for the 8th Annual Karner Blue 5K-10K-Half Marathon races that will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012.
Approximately 200 runners are expected and the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce is delighted to once again bring visitors in from around the area to partake in this fun event. Race chairman Joe Williams stated, "We have been preparing for several months and have all aspects of the event in order. Our only challenge could be the hot weather that is predicted. Our number one goal is to ensure the safety of our runners." Race planners will be watching the weather closely and keeping all participants informed of any changes that may occur.
One component of the event is a t-shirt design competition for eight to ten-year-old students from Jackson County elementary schools and the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County. The contest has ended and the winner has been selected. Ten-year-old Paris Prochaska who is entering 5th grade at Gebhardt Elementary submitted this year's winning design. Paris received a free t-shirt along with $20 in Chamber Bucks for her winning artwork. T-shirts with Paris' design on the front will be given to every race registrant. Paris is the daughter of Troy and Kelly Prochaska from Black River Falls.
