After more than two years in the La Crosse County Jail, Eric Koula left on Tuesday to begin serving a life sentence in a state prison for the murder of his parents.
42 year old Koula is now at the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupon, where all prisoners begin their sentences with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
There he will undergo a needs evaluation before he is assigned to a more permanent home, likely one of the DOC’s five maximum-security prisons, said department spokesman Tim Le Monds.
He could eventually earn placement in a lower-security unit, but Le Monds said that typically takes some time.
Koula was sentenced on Aug. 15 to consecutive life terms in prison without possibility of release for the 2010 deaths of his parents, Dennis and Merna Koula.
