With another school year getting underway, school buses will be making their rounds across Wisconsin. For children who take a school bus, they’re riding aboard one of the safest modes of transportation. Lieutenant Mike Klingenberg, with the Wisconsin State Patrol, explains why.
"School buses have an outstanding safety record. That has to do with the way they're engineered and built — and due to the dedicated drivers behind the wheel. At the State Patrol, we do our part by inspecting every school bus in the state at least once a year. Inspectors take an up-close look at the bus’s brakes, steering, tires, electrical systems — and all other safety equipment.
Last year, Wisconsin State Patrol inspectors conducted over 10,000 school bus inspections including the annual reviews, spot checks and pre-sale inspections.
