Augusta School Faces Moldy Problem

(8-27-10)

An area school district says it's confident that a professional cleaning crew can solve a mold problem at its elementary school before students come back to class.

The Augusta School District believes the combination of a wet, humid summer, and a lightning strike that damaged its air conditioning system in June caused it.

Now crews are racing the clock, because class is scheduled to start on Wednesday.

Published reports say someone at the school found traces of the mold in the building a couple weeks ago, and the problem was bigger than the district thought it could handle on it's own during the last week and a half.

Professionals are cleaning the school top-to-bottom.

Officials say the elementary school is the only building in the district with the mold, which is the typical variety that you'd find outside.
