(12/29/12-Tony Hart) The Christmas Eve blaze at the Jackson County Highway Shop damaged almost a dozen of the department's vehicles.
Randy Anderson, Jackson County's Highway Commissioner, said Friday the fire and ensuing smoke damage disabled ten snow plow trucks. All the trucks were used on the county road system. Anderson says the loss severely limits the county's snow removal operations for the immediate future. The department is working with Townships and neighboring counties for mutual assistance in snow removal services. The Commissioner asks the motoring public for their patience while plow trucks are repaired and certified to be placed back into service. All drivers should use their best judgment when choosing to travel. The Black River Falls Fire Department was called to the shop just after 11-o'clock Monday evening when a snowplow truck caught on fire. Four units and ten firefighters were on the scene for four-and-a-half hours. There were no injuries.
