February First is recognized as Wear Red Day by the American Heart Association...a day to raise awareness about the risks of heart disease for women.
Steele said both women and men can help keep their heart healthy by not smoking, managing blood sugar and blood pressure, knowing cholesterol numbers as well as family health history and staying active.
She said one of the simplest ways to keep active is to walk. Studies show that for every hour of walking, life expectancy may increase by two hours and walking for as few as 30 minutes a day provides heart healthy benefits.
