Weather Closes Many Schools on Wednesday

(1/30/13) Dozens of Wisconsin schools are closed, as a major snowstorm is starting to hit the Badger State this morning.

Marshfield schools decided last night to shut down, with a forecast of 5-to-9 inches. That's about what's expected in a path from southwest Wisconsin to Madison, and northward to central and northeast Wisconsin. Other places expect lesser snow totals, but strong northwest winds could create drifting later on. Metro Milwaukee could get up to three-inches, while Eau Claire and northwest Wisconsin might escape with as little as an inch. A check of T-V station Web sites showed that Madison, Green Bay, and Appleton schools were still on as of six a-m. And there were hardly any school closings reported in southeast Wisconsin and the far northwest. In Milwaukee, folks were playing golf yesterday afternoon as the mercury hit a record high of 60. But the Madison and Milwaukee areas were pounded by up two-and-a-quarter inches of rain last night – and then temperatures plunged as the rain changed to snow.
