(3/7/13) Even though outside it doesn't look like it, spring will soon be here!
And along with the blossoms and buds come the seasonal weight restrictions. Contrary to popular belief, this annual ritual is not intended to trigger feelings of fear, anticipation, and helplessness within haulers, new homeowners, homebuilders, businesses, and the general population. Spring weight limit restrictions are a necessity for the economic longevity and immediate structural stability of highways that, without restrictions, will seriously deteriorate when the underlying ground is weak and mushy from melting frost.
The Jackson County Highway Department encourages everyone to complete their heavy hauling BEFORE the weight restrictions become effective and while the highways are still frozen and strong.
The Jackson County Highway Department advises that the seasonal weight restrictions noted below will be imposed Thursday, March 14, 2013 on all Jackson County Trunk Highways except CTH P from the east Corporate Limit of the Village of Taylor westerly and northerly to the Badger Sand Mine, which receives no posting.
Seasonal weight restrictions for all other Jackson County Trunk highways are as follows:
Total Number of Axles
Maximum Gross Weight
Two (2) Axles
8 Ton (16,000 lbs.)
Three (3) or More Axles (Straight Truck)
13 Ton (26,000 lbs.)
Combination Vehicle (5th Wheel Tractor & Trailer)
18 Ton (36,000 lbs.)
The restrictions become effective once the signs are in place. Signs will be placed at strategic intersections advising the public of specific weight restrictions in effect on the particular highway. These restrictions are for County Trunk Highways ONLY. Any weight restrictions on State, City, Village, or Township roads are handled by each respective entity.
Restrictions will remain in effect until all our highways have regained their strength. This date is weather dependent, but on average occurs around the middle of April each year. A news release will be issued just prior to the date the restrictions are lifted.
