WI Milk Production Up in January

(3/9/13-Tony Hart)  Wisconsin milk production totals for January 2013 are in and there's some good news.

Milk production totaled almost 2-and a half billion pounds during that month.  That's up over 111 million pounds from a year ago. Milk per cow averaged nearly 2-thousand pounds, 80 pounds more than January 2012. The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation says, thirteen of the major milk producing states had higher production when compared with last year.  Minnesota and Wisconsin both saw a 5 percent gain in production, while Michigan and New York were both up 3 percent. On the other hand California's production fell by 4 percent. Idaho and Texas were both down 1 percent.
