Semi-Tractor Fire on I-94

(4/9/13)  On April 8, 2013 at 21:31 the Black River Falls Fire Department (BRFFD) was paged by the Jackson County Emergency Dispatch Center (EDC) for a semi unit fire on I-94 at Mile Post 118 West Bound.

This location is in the Township of Brockway and the County of Jackson.

The EDC was reporting that the semi tractor was fully engulfed at the time of the page out and that the cargo in the semi trailer was sea food.

Upon arrival of the department the semi tractor was fully involved and had extended into the semi trailer.

Both west bounds lanes of the interstate were closed for 50 minutes until the fire was knocked down and one lane was then reopened. West bound traffic was detoured off the interstate at the Millston exit and up Hwy 12 to Black River Falls during the time the road was closed.

The semi tractor is a total loss and the trailer has heavy fire damage as well. It also appears the sea food cargo is a total loss. The WI Department of Agriculture Food Inspectors has been advised of the incident.

At this time the cause of the fire and an estimated dollar loss is undetermined.

The semi unit is owned by Edgerton Truck and Trailer Repair of Bonduel, WI.

The driver from Medford, WI was not injured.

The department was on scene just over two hours with nine firefighters and four units.

The department was assisted on scene with traffic control by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Jackson County sheriff's Department.
