Fishing Season Begins

(5/4/13-Tony Hart) Today is the official opening day of the fishing season.  It's also the annual weekend for the Governor's Fishing Opener.

And when I stopped out at Four Season's Quik Stop, this morning, Mr. Ed said a number of area fishermen and women were in early on their way to area lakes and rivers in hopes of catching the "big one" today.  Governor Scott Walker was scheduled to take part in today's event on Lake Namakagon near Cable in Bayfield County, but he won't be there.  More than a foot of snow is on the ground.  The Cable Area Chamber of Commerce says it's still holding events for the opening of the fishing season. Walker says he still plans to fish on Lake Namakagon, but will reschedule his visit until safer conditions exist. The Governor's Fishing Opener was first started 48 years ago. There are still up to 20 inches of ice on some northern Wisconsin lakes.
