(5/30/13) Over $13,000 in grants was awarded Saturday, May 25 to educators at the annual Black River Falls High School (BRFHS) Alumni Banquet.
Mary Jo Radcliffe, chair of the Educational Enrichment Fund (EEF) Trustees stated, "I am so pleased that the EEF was able to fund eleven grant requests this year! At this time school budgets are so tight that these needs would go unmet without the generous support of the alumni and friends of the Black River Falls School District."
Since 2008, the grants awarded have grown from two to 11. The first year, $2,650 was dispersed for two grants. Since then, over $18,000 has been awarded. This year, over $13,000 was available for grant requests, allowing the EEF to fund playground equipment, bean bag chairs and pillows for the Forrest Street Early Learning Center; 12 iPads for the students at Gebhardt Elementary; a mobile room divider and art tables for the middle school; and a Real Runner Machine, an Original Compos Tumbler with materials, equipment for the school store, The Tiger's Den, a "Healthy Lifestyle" kit and percussion equipment for The Tiger Band at the high school.
Originally begun in 2005, the goal of the EEF was to raise over $400,000. Since then over $241,000 has been contributed through pledges, memorials, donations and the recently-established SUPPORTER program. Only the earnings on the principal are available for disbursement each year through grant requests.
Paula Hardie, BRFHS Band Director, shared her gratitude, "The Tiger Band and I are very grateful to have been selected to receive an EEF grant and appreciate the financial support to help us purchase our new marching percussion equipment. The percussionists are excited to be able to use the new percussion this coming fall in our field shows, parades and performances. These grant monies will go toward a great investment in equipment for the BRFHS music program. Thank you!"
Donations to the EEF can be given in the form of a pledge, a one-time gift, memorials in honor of a special person and/or as a SUPPORTER. Checks may be made payable to the Black River Falls Area Foundation and mailed to the Educational Enrichment Fund, PO Box 374, Black River Falls, WI 54615.
