If you were planning to spend your 4th of July at the Hixton Celebration, you’ll have to make alternate plans.
According to published reports this week, the annual event has been cancelled and most likely will not return.
According to the Hixton 4th of July Celebration Committee, the cancellation is due to a lack of volunteers to staff the event.
The committee took over the event from the Hixton Volunteer Fire Department in 2010.
They have battled for three years to find enough people to staff the event.
The committee considered scaling back the event, but decided it would be short-changing it’s attendees.
Reports say the celebration is likely over for good unless someone else steps up to take over planning and organizing.
