the stories:

of a Milwaukee church were injured during an expressway crash in Chicago last
night (SAT). The Chicago Tribune reports the accident occurred at around 8:30
p.m. on the Kennedy Expressway, injuring 14 people on a bus from the Holy Temple
Firstborn Missionary Baptist Church. The newspaper reports some of those
injuries are serious.


A new
study finds that federal funding for lead poison prevention could be endangering
children in the state and the nation. The La Crosse Tribune reports more than
9,000 children could be at risk in the state... and more than 535,000
nationwide. The report comes from new standards at the Center for Disease
Control and Prevention.


in central Wisconsin are looking for two prison inmates who escaped from work
release. WBAY-TV reports that 22-year-old Michael Watford of Wautoma and
21-year-old Timothy Lee Doud of Redgranite were on work release on Thursday and
did not return. The Waushara County Sheriff's office says the two escapees
should be considered dangerous, despite being jailed for non-violent crimes.

separate shootings on Saturday afternoon kept Milwaukee Police busy. Authorities
say a 39-year-old woman was shot in the 8700 block of West Melvina Avenue around
1:00 p.m.. At 3:45 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the 4100 block of North
56th Street, after police say he got in a dispute with another driver. Both
shooting victims suffered non-life threatening injuries. A third shooting
occurred at an undisclosed location - the victim was hospitalized and listed in
critical condition. Authorities are investigating all three shootings and say it
is unknown if they are related.
