(6/14/13) The Black River Falls Rotary Club held the 19th Annual Service-Above-Self Award banquet on May 17, raising money for a variety of non-profit entities and to honor a recipient with the Service-Above-Self award.

The event was held at Castle Hill Supper Club who provided a delicious meal, all the while being entertained with music by Midnight Entertainment.

The highlight of the evening was presenting the Service-Above-Self award to Carl Holmquist of Black River Falls.  Carl was selected to receive this prestigious award for the many years he has worked to benefit the citizens of our area.   Some of his accomplishments include working on committees to build such facilities as the Lunda Community Center, the Lunda Park and the Milt Lunda Memorial Arena to name a few.  Currently, Carl is working to create a new community center that will contain a senior center and a new facility for the Boys and Girls Club, among other amenities.  The Black River Falls Rotary Club was privileged to honor Carl with this award.

Proceeds from the fund-raising efforts during the award banquet will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Chippewa Valley – Jackson County Center, Friends Sharing Food and the Rotary sponsored, Polio Plus Campaign.

The Black River Falls Rotary Club is interested in growing their membership.  If there are any individuals who are interested in learning more about Rotary, please contact John Norgaard, Membership Chairman at 715-284-5115.
