(7/9/13) The 5th Annual Larry J. Kyser Memorial Run/Walk/Trap Shoot will be held July 13th at the Melrose Rod and Gun club.
The fundraiser is held yearly on the 2nd Saturday in July to help support the youth in the outdoors. Larry was a firm believer that children should have the opportunity to hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors as he did with his Grandfather, Dad, kids, grandkids family and friends. It's our honor to keep his love for the outdoors alive. The memorial fund helps support the hunter's safety program each year covering the cost of the program for the youth. The fund also donates to the Melrose turkey youth hunt, and supports programs such as youth trapping and archery courses. As the fund continues to grow, the family of Larry will continue to expand by helping with the activities that get the youth outdoors.
The Fun run/walk registration will begin at 8:15-8:50 am and the race begins at 9:00 am sharp, the cost is $15.00 (preregistration) or $20.00 day of the event. The trap shoot is 9:00-2:00. It is a 50 bird Trap shoot 25-16 yards & 25-22 yards, cost is $30.00 includes Lewis Class. Additional completions include the Chicken shoot, Annie Oakley shoot and the Kyser Shoot Out. The "Kyser Shoot Out" is a big event each year where shooters are either one of Larry's sons, grandsons, brothers, family members or a close friend. Each shooter gets sponsors and this event is a huge part of the fundraiser for the day. Medals are given in all of these events.
Because this is a youth fundraiser we could not leave them out of this special day. There will be a kid's race at 10:00 am, the cost is FREE! Ribbons will be given in each age group. Also starting at 10:30 am, will be kids' games like egg toss, water balloon toss, Gunny sack race and 3 legged races. New to the event this year will be a jump house for the kids. All provided free for the youth.
The day also features a variety of raffle prizes including: guns, hunting items, and much more.
The concessions for the day will be run by the Melrose Mindoro girls' soccer team with all proceeds going to the soccer booster club. Larry's granddaughter is on the team and was a part of the very first girls' soccer team at Mel-Min. We are honored to have them as part of the day.
