A county committee has said no to another frac sand mine in western Wisconsin.
The Trempealeau County land use panel voted 5-to-3 yesterday to reject a conditional use and mining reclamation permit for All-Energy Silica. The firm wanted to open a non-metallic quarry near Arcadia, but several committee members said the firm was too vague about its proposed mining output -- and the way it would transport the sand. All-Energy had submitted its application before Trempealeau County adopted a moratorium on new and larger frac-sand mines in late August. The facility would have covered around 550 acres, with a total cost of 45-million dollars.
