(10/14/13) People with diabetes, their family members and the public are invited to the annual Diabetes Fair on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Black River Falls.

The event will feature speakers, displays with diabetes educational information and supplies, blood sugar testing, door prizes and refreshments. In addition, diabetes educators will be available throughout the morning to answer questions.  There is no cost to attend.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Speakers and topics will include the following:
9:00 a.m. – "Medication Mania" by speaker Nicole Jones, Dietitian and Diabetes Educator from Novo Nordisk. Learn more about old and new medications.

9:45 a.m. – "Insulin Forward" by speaker Patty Klasen, Dietitian and Diabetes Educator from Westfield's Hospitals and Clinics in New Richmond, WI. Learn why insulin is needed and how important it is for diabetes control.

10:30 a.m. – Panel Discussion; people with diabetes sharing their stories. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear personal stories and to ask questions from the "real experts" in managing diabetes.

Between the presentations, participants will have the opportunity to visit the displays and enjoy refreshments.

We encourage people who have diabetes to attend the Diabetes Fair to learn how to take charge of their care and control their blood sugar levels. We also encourage people who have not been diagnosed with diabetes, but who have an increased risk of developing the disease to attend to learn as much as they can about this disease.

The Diabetes Fair is held annually and is sponsored by the Jackson County Diabetes Alliance, including members from: Black River Memorial Hospital, Krohn Clinic, Ho-Chunk Nation Health Department, and Jackson County Public Health. It is funded through a grant from the Lunda Charitable Trust.
