The family of Kira Steger say her funeral is scheduled for next Saturday in Rothschild. Steger went missing in February, she was found in the Mississippi River three months later. Her husband, Jeffery Trevino, was convicted of second-degree murder on October 2. Prosecutors say he killed her because she was having an affair and wanted to leave. Trevino's attorney has asked a judge to dismiss the conviction.
A new study shows the number of disease-carrying ticks have gone up, prompting the Wisconsin Department of Health to remind people to stay protected. The 2010-2013 study from UW-Eau Claire shows about 35-percent of ticks collected in 21 counties tested positive for Lyme. A spokesperson for the Department of Health says the spike is due to the expanding tick population. The department is specifically warning hunters to stay protected, check for ticks regularly and shower after being outside.
Governor Scott Walker is releasing a new book, covering details of his 2011 battle with public unions, recall efforts and reform. "Unintimidated: A Governor's Story and a Nation's Challenge" is set to release on November 19. In the book, Walker accuses conservatives of "playing by the rules set by the left" and calls for creative and innovation. Walker also criticizes Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential run, saying Republicans didn't run on principals, while being lenient towards President Obama. Democrats are scoffing at the book, calling it fodder for a future campaign.
